Consulting Partner, Jim Millard, brings 40+ years of healthcare and management experience to the Mirror Matter team. Whether it’s forecasting agency growth, managing vendor relationships, or strategizing internal and external positionings, he brings a much-needed perspective to the process.

What is your name? Do you prefer to go by a nickname?

Jim Millard.

What is your role and what are you responsible for doing?

My title is Consulting Partner. I’m responsible for a variety of administrative tasks and assist with internal processes as well as client strategies.

How do you describe what you do to friends and family?

I just say that I work with my son, James. He does a much better job explaining what we do.

What’s been your favorite project to work on?

My favorite project isn’t client-related. It’s been helping to manage the growth that Mirror Matter has enjoyed since we opened. It’s been very rewarding to see the continued commitment to maintain the quality of the work and the customer focus as we bring additional clients and staff on board.

What do you listen to when you’re working?

Classic rock, country and more recently, some blues.

What was your first job? Did you like it?

My first job was working for my dad and grandfather in their business, mixing mortar and carrying blocks and bricks. I can’t say that I liked the job back then, as it was hard work for a 9th grader who would rather be out playing, but looking back on it, it was the best first job ever. I got to work with my dad and grandfather and see just how hard they worked. I think some of their work ethic may have worn off. I still think about working with them when I drive by something we built together.

How would you describe yourself?

A fairly easy-going, even-tempered, glass-as-3/4-full, don’t dwell on the past but move forward and find a way to enjoy every day, kind of guy.

How would you describe Mirror Matter?

An agency that is extremely committed to our clients’ success and to each other. An agency that prides itself in quality work… Always.

Apple or Android, and why?

Apple—They haven’t given me a reason to switch yet.

How did you get linked with Mirror Matter?

Loved the name so I decided that I needed to be part of the company. 🙂

What part of “agency life” do you like the most?

My earlier careers were in Pharmacy and Hospital Administration, so my work was very scientific, analytical, and financial in nature. It’s been refreshing to work in more of a creative environment and to learn a little about the world of advertising.

Ideal retirement plan?

I’m living the dream right now, working part-time with my son in an awesome company with awesome people. I also have plenty of time to do the things I like, and to try a lot of new things. Most recently, I’ve taken up snowshoeing and chess. I also ordered my Peloton, tried my hand in some beer brewing, and worked with some friends on a small furniture project. Life is good.

Coffee, tea, or other?

Coffee—And maybe some “other” on the weekends.

What book, show, or podcast would you recommend to the world? Why?

An oldie but goodie, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. The principles apply to today’s business world as well as several aspects of your personal life.

Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall? Why?

Definitely summer—Swimming, family, golf, shorts, beer, bike rides and top down.

What are you looking forward to most about the next year?

Traveling again. I’m hoping that things settle down by summertime so we can get back to knocking off some of the places on our bucket list.
